  1. Has anyone tried it? I think it's a VERY tough market. I mean, nothing impresses buyers - not even very low prices!

Well, the market is full of dozens of companies promising 1 dollar hosting, maybe even 50 cents (in USD) hosting - but nobody's impressed - cause they're looking for quality (good reviews), not price.
  2. Never sale on price. If you want to start a host, Get a good network with good locations.
  3. A few years ago, a friend of mind started a web hosting company with "premium pricing" as he called it. The lowest hosting package was like $20 a month. When he came to webmaster forums to promote his web host, he was basically laughed at for having such expensive pricing. Still, he was able to find a niche, by promoting to local business owners around his area. Yes, starting a web host is a tough gig, but you just have to find your market. If you're trying to compete with other web hosts by offering the lowest prices, that's probably not going to work out.
